2018 Africa Meeting of the Econometric Society

The 2018 Africa Meeting of the Econometric Society (AFES 2018) took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Cotonou, Benin from July 12-14, 2018. The main objective was to promote the use of mathematics and statistical tools to better understand economic trends in order to craft better economic policy.
Prosper Dovonon (Concordia University, Montreal) and Leonard Wantchekon (Princeton University and ASE) chaired the conference, which featured some of the most renowned economists from Africa and the Caribbean.
The keynote addresses were delivered by 2007 Nobel Laureate Roger Myerson (University of Chicago) and by the distinguished development economist Eliana La Ferrara (Bocconi University). Professor Sir Tim Besley (LSE) called in remotely to give the presidential address.
Substantive topics covered include financial inclusion, education and human capital accumulation, infrastructure and regional development, agricultural productivity and poverty alleviation, economic history, culture, and long term economic development.
